If the ski is only used for classic skiing, the grip area of the ski base could be roughened with sandpaper (this way the grip coating stays better under the ski base and is more resistant to wear). Next, rub a thin layer of the base coat onto the ski-base grip area, spread it with a grease stick and finish with a synthetic cork to make it even.
