Since its founding in 1871, we have shaped the transport industry by offering innovative and affordable solutions for vehicles, machinery, and traffic management. Our commitment to quality and progress has made Continental a trusted partner for millions worldwide.
150 Years of Innovation and Progress
Continental began as a small company producing soft rubber parts, including horseshoe pads and balloons. By the late 19th century, we launched significant innovations such as the first pneumatic bicycle tires (1892) and patterned car tires (1904). Today, Continental is one of the world’s leading developers of mobility technologies, setting future trends and driving the transformation of the automotive industry.
Now present worldwide, Continental’s 200,000+ employees develop and manufacture technologies that make transportation safer and more efficient. Our expertise helps create intelligent transportation systems, connected vehicles, and eco-friendly solutions tailored to 21st-century needs.

Success Inspired by Sports and History
Continental has always been linked to cycling, with our tires helping athletes win for over a century. French cyclist Lucien Petit-Breton won the Tour de France twice on Continental tires, and our contributions to cycling innovation continue today.
We also have ties to the literary world—famous author Erich Maria Remarque worked at Continental in the 1920’s as editor of the company’s magazine, Echo Continental. His writings captured the humor, irony, and spirit of the times, reflecting how vehicle culture influenced society.
Looking Ahead
Our goal is to make mobility smarter, safer, and more sustainable. By leveraging artificial intelligence and digital connectivity, we offer innovative solutions that shape the future of transportation. Continental continues to lead the way in creating sustainable and connected mobility technologies.
